Maritime transport is the most efficient mode of transportation and has been growing annually by around 3.1% for the past three decades. Maritime Transportation had been instrumental in transforming the international logistics world globally. Maritime industry covers a wide sectors overview consisting of commercial shipping, industrial shipping, marine engineering, ship building, leisure industry, offshore oil and gas, port operations, maritime legal services and marine insurance, among others.

Bachelor in Maritime and Logistics (Honours) programme exposes students to the latest developments in maritime transportation industry that offers a broad view on maritime transportation business and the challenges and opportunities posed to the maritime transportation and logistics practitioners.

Maritime Logistics is a physical integration of modes of transportation facilitated by containerization and effective management of bulk products. The evolving demands of end-users require the application of contemporary logistics concepts and the achievement of pragmatic logistics goals.

Maritime transportation remains the backbone of global trade to support business and commerce, characterized by the prevalence of business-to-business and integration of various transportation modes.

In terms of ownership and operations, an estimated more than 90% of global trade is carried by sea and a volume of 10.7 billion tonnes is reached through world seaborne trade worth USD 17.2 trillion in 2017. Maritime industry provides employment for an estimated 1.65 million working in the global business across the world.

The discoveries of unexplored oil and gas has driven broader the economic growth and development across the region that implies significant opportunities.

Maritime logistics covers the whole scope of latest logistics developments within the port and shipping industry, port centric and hinterland logistics, global supply chain and future trends in maritime industry.

In this Bachelor in Maritime and Logistics (Honours) programme focuses on the maritime transportation sector and logistics management emphasizing on shipping, ports and marine management including port pricing and maritime transportation policies. The goal is to improve competitiveness, in particular to the developing economies, ultimately promoting and facilitating world trade in maritime transportation and logistics.
