Today’s world is globalised and very much interdependent. A country’s economic development and prosperity depends to a large extent on maritime transportation system that is efficient and cost-effective. Maritime transport is essentially a trade enabler and therefore has strategic economic importance. This phenomenon will facilitate a good and efficient supply chain in order to create effective value chain which is much needed in today’s pricing strategy.
The programme will expose the students to the newest updates on the complex environment in this field and gives a broad overview of the business challenges on maritime economics, freight, cost, safety and security, and on international policy on shipping and port businesses. The opportunities obtained by the students will include knowledge and deeper understanding of regional integration, international cooperation, and growing diversification of sources of supply, sources of market and the complexities of international trade.
Industry Focus
The programme focuses on the main activities carried out in the maritime transport and logistics sectors, concentrating on the management of ship and shipping activities, ports and marine management. The programme will prepare students with the knowledge of interpersonal communication, multimedia technology, creative thinking, general management and maritime and port-related management activities. The programme also prepares the students with relevant competencies in the field of management, maritime operations, maritime law and transportation. Graduates can assume the position of executive or junior managers of maritime transport and logistics companies apart from assuming roles in the public sectors. At the end of the programme, students will undergo an internship for 3 months. During this period, students will acquire working life experience in the real maritime world.

Programme Content
This programme introduces maritime transportation by focusing on the business aspect of maritime trade where the primary discussions are focused on the management of commercial maritime fleet. Maritime transportation management is treated as an end-to-end process, starting from the source of cargo to the end destination.
Assessment: The programme is assessed through assignments, presentations, quiz, test (coursework), practical, projects, field exercises, other forms of classroom participation and written examination.
Key career skills: Business inclination, good communication skill, good report writing ability, problem solving, presentation, project management, teamwork, decision making and willingness to learn.
