COURSE OVERVIEW

Our DP Operator Training is designed to provide knowledge of DP system, the principles and practical use of DP systems as required with due emphasis on safety, operational conditions, piloting skills and technical ability that is based on the Nautical Institute DP Operator training scheme as well as recommendations and guidelines as set by The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA).

COURSE OUTCOME

At the end of the course, the participants should have acquired knowledge of the principles of Dynamic Positioning, be able to set up a dynamic positioning system and have an understanding of the practical operation of the associated equipment, including the position reference systems.

The participants should be able to recognize and respond to the various alarms, warning and information messages. The participants should also be able to relate the DP installation to the ship system, e.g. power supply, manoeuvring facility, available position reference systems and nature of work.

Overall, the participants should be capable of planning and conducting any DP operation, including risk assessment, contingency planning and assessment of vessel capability. In addition, they should also be able to operate the desk under normal and pressured conditions, practice effective teamwork and apply the lessons learned to date.

Duration : (In 4 Parts)

• Part 1: 5 days DP Basic Course
• Part 2: 60 days DP Sea time
• Part 3: 5 days DP Advanced Course
• Part 4: 60 days DP Sea Time

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENT

Deck Officers or personnel working toward an STCW Certificate of Competency (COC) Class 1 & 2 who wish to start The Nautical Institute’s DP Operator Training Scheme.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment is carried out on completion of the courses. The assessment is a computer based multiple choice questionnaire based on the Aims and Objectives of the courses through the NI Alexis platform. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the assessment.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES / PATHWAY:

• This course is accredited by the NI and is Phase A & C of the DPO training scheme. This course may lead to employment in the offshore industry.
• Further 120 days DP sea-time may enable the participant to attain a Dynamic Positioning Operator Certificate from the NI.
