MOMENTOUS 7TH NMUC CONVOCATION CEREMONY
JOHOR BAHRU, 17 OCTOBER 2023 – The Netherlands Maritime University College (NMUC) marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 7th Convocation on the 17th of October 2023, at the Grand Hall of Sunway Hotel Big Box. This momentous occasion was proof of NMUC’s commitment to academic excellence and the peak of years of hard work and dedication by its graduates.
Formerly known as NMIT, NMUC transformed in 2019, ascending its status from college to University College. This pivotal upgrade has empowered NMUC to expand its academic horizons, offering a broader range of diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and Ph.D. programmes. This expansion will undoubtedly grant more potential students access to high-quality education in a variety of professions.
One of the hallmarks of NMUC’s journey to excellence was the recognition it received from the Ministry of Higher Education through the Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private Colleges (My QUEST) for 2016/2017. NMUC was awarded the highest rating, a prestigious 6-star rating, in the Overall College Category. This recognition is a testament to NMUC’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality in education. NMUC’s commitment to academic achievement is further evidenced by its accomplishment that all of its programmes have earned accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
The 7th Convocation of NMUC was held in two sessions at the Grand Hall of Sunway Hotel Big Box, reflecting the growing number of graduates and the increasing demand for NMUC’s programmes. NMUC welcomes all attendees for this joyous occasion to enjoy the celebration with the other guests, notwithstanding the high number of graduates this year, which is 323 students, marking a significant achievement for both the graduates and the institution.
These graduates are from diverse backgrounds and fields of study and completed their studies in various programmes, including Bachelor in Maritime & Logistics (Honours), Diploma in Maritime Transportation Management, Diploma in Shipping Management, Diploma in Port Management, and Diploma in Maritime Occupational Safety & Health. These programs have equipped them with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their respective fields and contribute to the maritime industry’s growth and development.
A highlight of this momentous event was the conferment of NMUC honorary professorships upon five individuals who have played crucial roles in NMUC’s journey to becoming a leading maritime university in Johor. These distinguished individuals have demonstrated exceptional dedication and contributions to the maritime education sector. The NMUC honorary professorship serves as a token of appreciation for their support and their commitment to raising the standards of maritime education in the region. Their expertise and guidance have been invaluable to NMUC’s growth and success. Also, NMUC is honoured to be sponsored with a prestigious accolade from Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor which is the “Best Student Award” bestowed on the valedictorian for this cohort of graduates.
