NETHERLANDS MARITIME UNIVERSITY COLLEGE AS IMCA APPROVED ROV INTRODUCTORY TRAINING PROVIDER

February 28, 2024, stands as a momentous occasion for the Netherlands Maritime University College (NMUC), which has been a beacon of maritime education excellence since its establishment in 2010, focusing on Port Shipping, and Oil and Gas industries in Malaysia.

In 2022, NMUC joined the esteemed ranks of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA), signaling its commitment to industry standards. In early 2023, the institution made a strategic investment in subsea Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) training. Despite facing various hurdles, NMUC has now earned recognition from IMCA UK as a certified training center for the ROV Introductory training program. This accolade follows rigorous audits conducted by IMCA in November 2023, culminating in official certification in December 2023.

IMCA UK, a nonprofit entity, is renowned for setting safety benchmarks in the offshore sector, particularly in subsea diving and ROV operation management for the global oil and gas industry. Recognized internationally for its expertise, IMCA has garnered endorsements from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and major oil companies worldwide, significantly influencing offshore subsea safety standards.

In Malaysia, leading oil companies such as Petronas and other Production Sharing Contractors (PSCs) have integrated IMCA subsea guidelines and procedures into their offshore operations and management protocols.

To date, NMUC has successfully trained 42 ROV pilot technicians hailing from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei. The majority of these graduates have secured stable employment in Malaysia, Brunei, and the Middle East. NMUC remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering offshore subsea careers among Malaysian youth. To this end, the institution plans to incorporate its ROV training programs into Malaysian government training grants, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and the Human Resources Development Corporation (HRDC). This initiative aims to inspire Malaysian youth to pursue rewarding careers in the dynamic field of offshore subsea operations
