On November 2, 2024, students from the Netherlands Maritime University College (NMUC) participated in a mangrove monitoring activity at Forest City, revisiting the mangrove trees they planted last year. This event was part of the ongoing project “Mangrove: The Blue Carbon,” under the Iskandar Puteri Rendah Karbon (IPRK) 4.0 grant, generously awarded by Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri (MBIP). Led by Mr. Aiman Muqri Ahmad Shukri, the program exemplifies NMUC’s commitment to environmental sustainability and active community engagement.
The initiative was conducted in collaboration with Kelab Alami HQ and chaired by Dr. Serina Rahman from the National University of Singapore, adding valuable expertise in mangrove conservation and environmental advocacy. This partnership amplifies the impact of NMUC’s efforts, not only contributing to environmental preservation but also enhancing student awareness and participation in meaningful ecological work.
Through this ongoing collaboration, the program showcases NMUC’s dedication to fostering sustainable development initiatives that benefit the local community and ecosystem. Mangroves play a crucial role as a “blue carbon” ecosystem, absorbing carbon dioxide and protecting coastal areas, making their conservation vital in the fight against climate change.
This program continues to strengthen NMUC’s strategic partnerships, enhancing both educational outcomes and ecological awareness among students while contributing to the global mission of environmental sustainability.
